About the Project

To Be Me... is a queer web series that centers on transgender and non-binary identity. The story is about an African American who grew up in a very conservative, religious community. They come home to their father, played by Emmy award-winner Kim Estes, after four years and realize it’s time for them to share who they are with their friends and family. Introducing actor Kate Rose Wilburn, a non binary trans female, the story focuses on the struggle they are having with their gender identity and the beauty of defiance and how love can deepen relationships of all types. Navigating the complexities of gender can cause rage and resistance, but with support, one can find hope and fulfillment in places they may not have realized.

Before the recent news about Trump administration’s decision to legally define sex, the creators knew they wanted to create a project that was relevant and timely. The goal has always been to create a series that is real. The creators wanted to create something that not only can educate, but can also relate to people of all backgrounds because all anyone is looking for in life is love and support. Gathering a vast group of contributors and activists from the trans and non-binary community and with the resources the creators bring from the entertainment industry, together they want to spark a change in the country as a whole and bring awareness to this political, social, and economic topic.

To Be Me... is supported by a strong community built by people who believe in our mission. If you would like to join in supporting this project please check out the page linked below for more information and action steps.
